The Region: Antigua
If you haven’t visited Antigua, you haven’t really experienced Guatemala. The city holds claim to many titles, including the colonial Spanish capital of Central America and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It also happens to be one of the most beautiful colonial towns in Central America.

Antigua has maintained a small town spirit despite having grown to be a hot spot for tourism that attracts thousands of visitors every year. Full of historic buildings, colonial churches, and museums, its location is a central access point to many other tourist spots in the region. The city is also known for its elaborate religious celebrations and processions during Holy Week, leading up to Easter.

Surrounding Antigua are three beautiful volcanoes: Agua, Acatenango, and Fuego. Fuego, which means fire, continues to blow smoke on a daily basis. This volcanic trio sets a jaw-dropping background for a climate full of lush rainfall, constant humidity, natural shade and the perfect altitude for growing coffee beans. In fact, Guatemalan coffee is thought to be one of the most flavorful in the world - and Antigua is the country’s oldest and most famous coffee growing region.
