The Cervantes Crew
Our Team
Ben is a roaster here at Cervantes. Roasting coffee has been a passion of his for several years, starting at home and then 2 years professionally. Roasting is just one craft element that he loves: brewing beer, making kombucha and roasting coffee are among the many passions in his life. When he's not doing one of these things, he can be found playing guitar/singing, spending time with his neighbors/community, or utilizing his skills as a photographer in both urban and nature settings!
Mia is a lead barista a Cervantes Coffee, bringing her passion and skills in coffee from her past work in Washington DC. Mia has had lead positions at La Colombe Coffee Roasters and Bus Boys and Poets. Mia leads much of the training at Cervantes and is the lead instructor in espresso and latte art. She enjoys teaching her skills to others and working with people at developing coffee skills. Her favorite drink: the almond latte.
Nick splits his time as a barista and 'moving bean' in our wholesale fulfillment department. He's passionate about coffee and feels that a good cup takes time. Outside of coffee, Nick loves hiking and backpacking. He also has a passion for street photography, art, as well as philosophy. His favorite drink is the cortado.
Jenna is a shift leader at Cervantes Coffee, and works closely with the manager on the front end of the business. Jenna loves to read, travel and volunteer on her time off. She has developed a strong path of professionalism and management at Cervantes and works closely with the management at quality control and customer service. Her favorite drink: the Iced Latte!
Kristen is a barista at Cervantes Coffee. She came to us in January of 2019 curious about the coffee industry and with the desire to grow in knowledge of the process from bean to cup. A full time Campus Minister at George Mason University, she takes great pride and pleasure in helping to kindle and grow our warm Cervantes community. She loves spending her free time traveling and being outdoors or near water as much as possible. Her favorite drinks are anything with our homemade Lavender syrup!
Trey is a barista at Cervantes Coffee. He came to us in October of 2019 with some previous barista experience. In his free time Trey is playing video games, talking with friends, traveling distant countries, and keeping up on shows. He is a master at efficiency at the espresso bar. His favorite drink: a breve latte!
Colleen is a writer, event planner, and chalk artist located in Alexandria, Virginia, and her passions revolve largely around stand up comedy and spicy food. Since 2012 she has been, at varying times, a barista, hostess, waitress, bartender, caterer, and office manager, but she continually returns to the coffee business. She brings to Cervantes a keen eye for organization and a passion for traditional espresso drinks, and when she’s not here, she’s probably at a soccer game cheering on her favorite local rec team.
Erica joined the Cervantes team in 2019 at the height of our growth in wholesale operations. She is from Colombia and appreciates all the hard work going into coffee production. She is a critical member of our fulfillment team and is always up to share with us all a good story in Spanish or English.
Marialy is the master roaster and owner at Cervantes Coffee Roasters. On a typical day she is either involved in the marketing, inventory, packaging, quality control, green buying and customer service. All this while being a full time mom and roasting top quality single origin coffee. Marialy brings the art to our artisan roasted coffee, dedicating time and effort on selecting the best roast that brings out the precise flavor for each coffee origin. Marialy is focused on detail, and consistency in the way she roasts. And you will notice this when you try our coffees and meet her at the store. Her favorite coffee: the Bolivia San Ignacio of course, and an espresso cortado.
